About CVFUN!
Our history
CVFUN (Central Vermont Families & Friends United) is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization with the mission of creating social and recreational opportunities for the developmental disabilities community. Formerly known as The ARC of Central Vermont, we have been serving the Developmental Disabilities Community since 1952! At one point in our history, we were under the umbrella of The United Way, but are now an independently driven entity focused on our mission of recreation and inclusion.
CVFUN events have historically been a safe space for underserved adults and their personal support network of family, friends, and service providers, anchored around our monthly dances running from the fall through the spring. Our monthly dances have become fully immersed and themed events such as our Tropical Dance, 1950’s Rock and Roll Dance, Spring Stampede Country & Western Dance, Hollywood Nights Dance, and of course the CVFUN Halloween Dance!
Our mission
Our mission of creating social and recreational opportunities will always be at the core of what we do, but as our program expands, we aim to become not just a provider of community events, but a conduit between our tight-knit developmental disabilities community, and the Central Vermont Community at large. We will always promote diversity and inclusion while celebrating the many talents of our participants, many of whom have played vital volunteer roles in supporting CVFUN events. We couldn't do it without the administrative support, food preparation and service, event decoration and clean-up, and invaluable feedback that helps make our events even better! History and science have both shown that we, as people, need one another to thrive and be healthy and happy. We are so grateful to serve the community in this way, and we are passionate about our mission of social connection through recreation!
